Yuengling Premium Beer Quart

Yuengling Premium Quart Cone Top

Produced for D. G. Yuengling & Son in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, the Yuengling Premium Beer Quart represents one of the most prominent large-format packages released by America's oldest operating brewing company. While Yuengling packaged its flagship Premium brand in standard-sized containers for broad distribution, the 32-ounce quart size was manufactured in considerably smaller quantities, making it a standout item for breweriana enthusiasts and quart specialists.

Background and Heritage

Founded in 1829 by David G. Yuengling, the Pottsville brewery built its reputation on strong regional loyalty across Pennsylvania and neighboring markets. The Premium label served as the brewery's primary flagship offering for generations, featuring traditional branding and the historic eagle emblem that has long symbolized the company's identity.

Manufacturing and Variations

The quart container was manufactured by major can companies of the era, including the Continental Can Company. Collectors recognize various differences across known examples, including subtle shifts in mandatory side-panel text, regulatory statements, and manufacturer trademark placements. In contrast to the more widely distributed 12-ounce versions, the quart saw a much more limited production run.

Collector Significance

Quart cans occupy a dedicated niche within breweriana collecting due to their substantial display presence and lower rate of survival compared to standard sizes. As a large-capacity package from an iconic Pennsylvania brewing institution, the Yuengling Premium Beer Quart remains a prized centerpiece for regional specialists and cone top enthusiasts alike.
